Two years ago, my brother and his husband got married in what can only be described as the most amazing party to ever hit Key West and that is saying a lot. It was November of 2012 and Hurricane Sandy had just wreaked havoc on the East Coast especially where we live...for 8 days prior to boarding the plane for Key West we had no power and no heat. The night before we left the power camw back on and I was in my studio until the wee morning hours printing as many wedding programs as I could but I was running very short on paper as my delivery hadn't come due to the storm. So I called TK and Andrew in Key West and told them to find a Kinkos or any place that would print and cut for them, and I emailed them the file so they could print the rest of what we needed. When guests stepped off the plane they needed sunshine, a cocktail and a party and that's exactly what they got! My feet still hurt from dancing that long weekend and my husband is still dreaming of chocolate covered Key Lime Pie.
The ceremony and reception were held at the Hemmingway House in Key West which was the inspiration for the wedding invitation suite and all the paper goods we created for the day.
I created a fun Save the Date postcard with a watercolor illustration inspired vintage postcards and colors from a tropical sunset as well as the Hemmingway House and Overseas Highway which takes you from Miami thru Key West. The grounds were filled with tropical vegitation lit from underneath which made for a magical atmosphere and a small nook in the trees was transformed into a cigar bar complete with cocktails. There were six toed cats roaming around and one in particular was very curious during the ceremony, he sauntered his way up the steps and gracefully sat down right in front of the boys during their vows. The ceremony was made even more special by officiant, the boy's former roommate and forever friend, Jay.
Happy 2nd Anniversary TK and Andrew and here's to many more!
